Musical Chairs... or something.

Since all the cool kids are doing it, I thought I'd give it a go.

Step 1: Put your Media player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) or your favourite lines of the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly
.

This was more problematic than anticipated. A lot of instrumental pieces and quite a few of Finnish (and other non-English language) songs cropped up, so I skipped those in the name of fair chance.

[identity profile] teapot-stains.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, oh, oh, oh!

Portishead - Biscuit?

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] kiltfriction.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
18. Drive - R.E.M.

Love 19 it's a brilliant song.

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
both correct. And yes #19 gives me shivers every time, just so layered.

[identity profile] wliberation.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, OOH! #6 is Hawksley Workman's Striptease! Oh man, I think I love you.

...and I cannot believe I just got that exited over a song. ...It's the sugarhigh, I swear. *eats more of her deliciousdelicious chocolate cheesecake*

Oh, and #13 is Leonard Cohen's Dance Me to the End of Love. :)

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
yes and yes! And I think I love you right back for getting those two :) Also, my love for Leonard Cohen cannot be described in words. I'd portray it through medium of dance or something if that wasn't just a tad on the wrong side of disturbing.

[identity profile] wliberation.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I always get giddy when I hear that other people have heard of Hawksley. My relationship with Cohen is a bit... dubious. But you couldn't tell that from the amount of his songs that I have. *G*

[identity profile] sugaration.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm...

14. Passenger Seat (?) - Death Cab
16. I Knew I loved You - Savage Garden

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
both correct! Clearly my F-list has as cracked taste in music as I do. Awesomesauce!

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've heard of him. I have a couple of his songs, not many but enough to make me want to find more...

When it comes to music I'm 80% about lyrics, which is where Cohen comes in. But yes, his songs are best taken in small doses, otherwise the urge to commit a) suicide or b) angsty poetry become too much.

[identity profile] scruby.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I love this idea! I'm gonna do it I think. I'm still not sure about te lyrcse you posted, sorry.(:

[identity profile] wliberation.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Which songs? I might have something for you... :D

I love good lyrics, they are important and a lot of the time, they make a song for me, which is why I too like Cohen, but... The music itself is also very important to me, and while great music can often make up for crappy lyrics, it works less often the other way around. Which is why I don't know what to think about Cohen. But so far, I've not given up on him, so... yay?

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a rather fun meme, steal away. I'll try my best to guess your songs then :)

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-29 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Striptease obviously, and Don't be crushed and Jealous of Your Cigarette and, well, that's about it. I've heard a couple of other but don't actually have them.

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
you RAWK. Thank you so much! downloading now....

[identity profile] inkblot-fiend.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I don't BELIEVE I didn't get Heaven's Not Enough... I ADORE that song! It practically makes me weep.

Are you... a Wolf's Rain fan?

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a wonderful achy song.

Are you... a Wolf's Rain fan? - alas no, can't say that I am, as I've never seen it. I've heard good things about it mind, and know that the song is from the soundtrack.
