I have an idea already. Gabe showing up at Pete's door, with the key in a chain around his neck. It's a sign that Pete recognises, a sign of what Gabe needs.

oh he would be yeah. and gabe would be very jittery and just ramble on, nervous even though he's the one asking for it.

Yeah he would because even though he wants it he finds it really hard to verbally ask for it. It's not something he can ask for straight away.
