As somebody who has spent her entire degree charting the gradual evolution of literature across five centuries - parallel to the political and social atmosphere of the time - I just want to tell this guy to GET THE FUCK OUT because LITERATURE DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. The fact that this man thinks that "his" genre should be exempt from change fills me with more rage than the fact that he's apparently blaming me because it isn't.

Can I just say amen!

Why thank you! It's probably a mark of just how deeply my degree has gotten its claws into me that my first thought isn't WHAT A SEXIST PIG but THIS MAN HAS NO IDEA OF THE EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS OF LITERATURE. Seriously, though: he should hate the game, not the player(s).

Also, can I just say that I have a lot of love for your icon right now.

oh I know. I read it and instead of having a sexist/homophobic flail, all I could think was "you are totally misunderstanding the role common culture sources, such as sci-fi, play in our cultural understand of gender/sexuality and the way it changes over time. AND you have no supporting evidence to back up your theory."

See, we can slap him down with both intellectual history AND the evolutionary process of literature.

I have a lot of love for your icon too.
