Torchwood - Day 5

It was as suspected. Torchwood comes to an end with a death-toll higher than your average revolution. Also wtf was that about the nuclear family out-surviving everyone else? I mean I love Gwen and Rhys, but come on. Your subtle message is not so subtle.

Exactly. I get that Jack can and will make hard decisions, there is no need to fucking hammer it home and then say 'oh hey, a little star-travelling will heal his broken soul, awesome' and expect the audience to approve.

Well I wasn't expecting much more from him after series 2 and hey ho! he delivered absolutely nothing.... But I do have to say that even I was surprised by the absolute crap that spewed out of the TV today.

It's so painful because amidst the crap there were some truly amazing scenes. Like Forbisher's (sp?) character... Entirely believable resolution and the role was beautifully acted. But it was like diamonds in a pile of steaming shit.

Yes, he was an amazing character, but I do find it quite sad, that I found the woman assassin's character more interesting than any of he team towards the end... I just couldn't even enjoy the good acting because the pile of shit was tainting everything...

I've always said that the fist series was the best, and I'm holding on to that...

I get the feeling RTD did not like the Ianto character - maybe because he was so unexpectedly popular and that didn't fit in with his vision. I feel sorry for Gareth David-Lloyd, he did a wonderful job bringing Ianto to life, only to have him end so damn stupidly.

I'm still too emotionally raw to get bitter to be properly cynical (this period lasted three days with Harry Potter, and that was ten years of my life. This will take maybe a few hours) because HOLY SHIT there was some good stuff in there.

What made me most uncomfortable was the complete lack of a grieving period. They were back to making light of his sexuality and telling lies and all of that shit within minutes. And I KNOW that they were coming for their children, but it just went to show that Ianto's death meant NOTHING, it served no PURPOSE and I am so done with that in drama.

If you must kill someone I love, do it because it's going to matter, not on (what turned out to be) some random, puposeless event that doesn't even resonate to the next fucking episode. Why didn't the 456 release a virus again? If it was a VIRUS why wasn't it spreading, how did that one guy survive and why wasn't every wall of that room lined with hazmat suits in case, I don't know, the noxious fumes started to leak?

Ianto's death was contrived and needless. The rest of it rocked my world.

*Yoda-voice* Logic strong in this show is not. I'm pretty sure that in actuality MI5 building is lined up with hazmat suits.

The solution was rather 50s sci-fi as well (it's the frequency!) although frying poor Stephen with that I actually thought was a believable plot twist (Jack's face! John Barrowman not over-acting! It was really good in a really harrowing way).

Ianto's death was indeed pointless. The only purpose it served was to increase my mistrust of any show I love...

I would like to scream and shout but I'm so disappointed with the episode that I can't even do that.

Just watched the season 1 declassifieds yesterday and RTD was soooo excited about the new show called Torchwood. With this episode especially, it seems to me he must have hated the show and all the characters.
