The house smells of old roses and dried blood. It’s one of the few still standing which makes it theirs now.
Annie sinks into the foundations, heavier than air, nightmare dark and beautiful. George brings the moon in, silver fangs and sickle claws, curve of his spine twisting like the Milky Way, the wax and wane of his pain marking time.
Mitchell comes last. He tried to leave, once. Now he knows better. Now, he seeps in through the cracks, a lengthening shadow of hunger and love sharp enough to slice. It is only here that both will be sated.
