So, in a probably doomed attempt of Posting and Interacting and Doing Something Else Besides Work Please God, I've decided to have... Maybe... A little go at the...



For the first time ever. I've given it a pass in the past because the timing is murder for anyone working in HE but screw everything this year, and my 90h of overtime in particular. So there.

The first challenge was an introduction so I took the opportunity to write a new Welcome Post and update my profile ever so slightly. Achieve!

In other news, I am WRITING AGAIN HALLELUJAH. Which is both fantastic and depressing, because it took me 1.5 weeks of recovery/holiday to get to the point where words were cooperating again. And now I want to write All The Things but I know that from Monday work is going to try to kick my ass so hard again :( Anyway, I have signed up to another try at getyourwordsout. I did not achieve my goal last year because 2020, but I did write 86k of fic anyway so fuck you universe. There will be the usual fanworks round-up meme soon. Well, this month?

The great things about the challenge are that you are not required to take part in every challenge and that, even if you're not able to post at the time, you can always go back and complete a challenge and peruse other people's responses afterwards. It's like a gift that keeps on giving :)

Whoop, thank you! Yes, the flexibility is absolutely a big draw and bonus for me. 2020 made me miss challenge deadlines for the first time ever and am bitter about it. I'm hoping this year will be kinder and I can get some kind of balance. And I've missed fandom and my DW peeps so the Snowflake will be a good impetus for chatting.

I second that! We definitely need 2021 to be kinder to us! And yes, even if you don't get around to writing anything, it's still great to have the connection to other people. Especially if we can't see many people face to face!

Work life balance, particularly when going to work doesn't currently involve leaving the house, is DIFFICULT right now - we have to log all our hours and I'm very aware that I need to model good behaviour around my hours so I can make sure my team aren't working too much which helps, but it's HARD. GOOD LUCK. One's productivity is significantly better with decent balance, but just... stopping isn't really always an option.

I've been in such writing funk lately so I'm relieved to be able to produce words again.

Yeah, having no separation between work and home is really affecting that. It's just been get up, laptop for work, eat, laptop for fun, sleep, maybe go and run around the same part for a bit. I bet having to role model decent working hours helps a lot though in terms of accountability. But yeah, there's the whole thing of 'I either work over time to get thing thing done or it won't get done on time' and being late or not prepared causes additional stress.

I've done the snowflake challenge for the last couple of years, but end up dipping in and out, depending on what the subject is and where my attention has got to. Have fun!

Thank you! Writing was going really well until September but then ground to halt so pretty much all of that was produced during the first two thirds of the year.

Yay for writing again! That's fabulous. Writing 86k is really a wonderful total of words and you should be proud of that given how hard 2020 was.

The Snowflake challenge thing looks interesting, have been thinking I should be more interactive and connect with people more often. Maybe I should investigate, especially if it's not too demanding;)

Good news about the writing muse making a reappearance. Not such good news about work about to start again, though if you keep racking up overtime at that rate you'll need a year off...

After my December music I am having a few days of rest before embarking on anything. However, my resolutions are to write more (or rather, more widely), post a lot more (I tend to live in comments to other people's posts) and buy less - especially books both printed and digital until my tbr pile gets to some kind of sane proportions. Note the posting resolution...

Happy 2021! I really hope to be able to visit. Likely I'll go and stay at S & N's as soon as it's okay to travel but will wait until it's properly safe to see you and T. When it warms up, outdoor visits of course become more possible.

Yeah, I have to say I'm not looking forward to work tomorrow AT ALL. I'm currently determined to keep to reasonable hours but have very low success rates with that sort of resolution so... The problem with overtime hours is that I don't think there is anytime I could actually take them back, considering I still have most of my annual leave to use before end of August.

Those are all excellent resolutions. I joined cookbook_challenge in a low level commitment way to try my existing recipes, and am also going to try and keep to some book reading time every day in order to actually read what's in my own bookshelf.

Didn't do any writing Thu or Fri, but I have managed a little Discovery ficlet today. Hoping to post the wincest fic tomorrow when I get home...
